Cordiali saluti Chiara Guazzoni ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Colleague, this is to announce the 11th European Symposium on Semiconductor Detectors, taking place June 7 - 11, 2009 at Wildbad Kreuth, Germany. As on previous occasions the emphasis of this conference will be on physics, technology, and properties of semiconductor sensors. The proceedings of the conference will again be published as refereed papers in a special issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A. Contributions are invited for the following fields: * Principles and Properties of Detectors * Read-out Electronics * Device Physics * Detector Technology and Semiconductor Material Properties * Defects in Base Material and Devices (including Radiation Damage) * New Applications for Semiconductor Detectors * Integration of Sensors and Read-out Electronics The last conference of this series had the special focus with an extended session on solid state vertex detectors at collider experiments. This time, special emphasis will be on detectors and experiments at the new generation of photon sources like XFEL and LCLS. The extended session on this topic will be introduced by invited key-note speakers giving an overview of the challenges and solutions for these applications. Historically the European Symposium on Semiconductor Detectors is also known as the "Elmau Conference". Since 2005 it found a new home at Wildbad Kreuth in the alpine landscape between Germany and Austria. Kreuth is a small and quiet village close to the tourist attraction Tegernsee, an idyllic lake surrounded by the Bavarian Alps. The conference venue Wildbad Kreuth is located south of Kreuth at the foot of the Blauberge half way to Austria. It offers the necessary infrastructure and the amenities for intense discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. The following time line may be helpful for your planning: . February 23, 2009: abstract submission deadline for conference contributions . April 15, 2009: conference pre-registration deadline . June 7, 2009: first day of the conference, conference registration starting at noon, first session at 4:30 pm . June 11, 2009: last day, sessions end at noon The latest information on the symposium can be found on our web site http://www.hll.mpg.de/sds <http://www.hll.mpg.de/sds> . There you can also find references to the proceedings of the previous conferences and eventually register for this symposium. We are looking forward to seeing you at Wildbad Kreuth! L. Andricek, P.
