              Polariton atomes in the ultra strong coupling regime

                                   Abstract:
The regime of ultra-strong light-matter interaction has been demonstrated using
 0-dimensional cavities coupled with an optical transition between two confined
 states of a semiconductor quantum well. This interaction creates pairs of half
matter and half photon particles with an energy separation that is proportional
  to the coupling strength. We have measured splitting amounting to 48% of the
optical transition, the highest ever measured in a light-matter coupled system.
   The origin of the coupling has been investigated by varying the number of
electrons on the ground state. It is found that such an ultra-strong interaction
    arises from the close-to-unity overlap between the optical mode and the
 electronic wavefunction and a collective contribution due to the high density
                               electronic plasma.
