Giorgia Tonani, currently a research fellow at the INFN Milan Division, has received the award for the best PhD thesis of the LHCb experiment. The LHCb Thesis Awards recognize excellent PhD theses and additional work done during the studentship, over and above the central thesis topic, that has made an exceptional contribution to LHCb.
In her thesis, titled Measurement of the magnetic and electric dipole moments of the Λ baryon at LHCb, defended in Milan in September 2025, Giorgia Tonani developed a new experimental technique that makes it possible to measure the magnetic and electric dipole moments of the Λ baryon within the LHCb experiment, opening the way to studies that had not previously been accessible.
In addition to her analysis work, Giorgia made an important contribution to the construction, installation, commissioning and data-taking operations of the Upstream Tracker, LHCb’s silicon tracker, for which the INFN Milan group held major responsibilities.
