The fifth edition of the “RADIOLAB & ISOradioLAb Summer School: Open-air laboratory on Monte Rosa – Doing science together by studying ionizing radiation” will be held from 06 to 11 September 2026. The previous editions were a great success, and so this year a new one is being proposed again in the Fornarelli’s area of Macugnaga (VB).
This event is one of the cornerstones of the third mission project of the CC3M-INFN RADIOLAB and ISOradioLAb carried out in collaboration with the PLS-Physics.
32 students of IV and V high school selected from all the Italian schools to which is added representations from the Italian-Albanian sections ofScutari’s and Coriza’s High School who adhere to the RADIOLAB & ISOradioLAb project at a national and international level, during the 5 days of the Summer School will study with their teachers the themes related to the natural radioactivity of the mountain environment that hosts them and in particular of the natural gas 222-Rn. Through a purely experimental approach they will expand their knowledge on the methods of measuring radioactivity, they will have meetings with experts in glaciology and geology as well as being able to discover the world of the local population, the Walser.
For the accompanying teachers it will be a moment of reflection on the topics covered and on how to decline and implement what they experience and experience during the Summer School in their school programs.
Everyone will be guided in this experience by university professors and INFN researchers supported by a group of tutors from the Health Physics Course who are eager to try their hand at introducing and transmitting their enthusiasm for these topics to the younger ones.
Local Alpine guides will lead the day of educational excursions on the mountains and paths of geological interest in the area.
